Christmas shopping for... The Geek Extraordinaire

Contrary to what people sometimes think, geeks are not all overgrown teenagers hiding in customised computer rooms above their parents' garage, far from it! There even exists a little tribe of uber fashionista geeks out there, girls that don't get out of the house without their throwing their lipgloss, netbook, ipod, blackberry, etc in their Miu Miu handbags. This is a list of my picks for them, geekie gifts with an attitude to please your technology-obsessed diva.

1. The Extraordinarily Beautiful Netbook: Laptops have come a long way from the black and boring bricks and the HP netbook partnership with Studio Tord Boontje has created a gorgeous little baby under model Mini 110-1199SA. It is adorned with a delicate floral print weaving around hidden animals (MacBook eat your heart out!) and comes complete with a microfibre sleeve and a wireless mouse sporting the same 3D pattern. This gorgeous netbook will not only make her look stylish when surfing in her nearest café, it also packs quite a mighty punch, with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Processor N280, Windows 7 pre-installed, 160GB hard drive, 1GB standard memory, and integrated WLAN.
It is on

Or get it free with one of the mobile internet providers with a 24-month subscription.

2. The Gizmo for Extraordinary Complexion: There are new gadgets popping out in the beauty world almost every week now, but there is only one you should get your geeky princess; enter the Clarisonic face cleansing system! This face brush uses sonic micro-massage action to cleanse skin even deeper, all without any harsh abrasion or chemicals, making it even easier for skin to absorb serums and creams. 1 minute a day is all that's needed with this to achieve clearer skin, smaller pores and reduced fine lines.
Get one from Space NK, http://www.spacenk.co.uk/ from £146.81.

3. Far from Ordinary MP3: Any serious fashionista will already have an Ipod, but, hold on, this is your opportunity to get her an even better one! Just when we didn't think they could not improve their creation any further, the Ipod crew launches the Ipod Nano with Video. Still available in 8GB and 16GB, in a rainbow of colours. Make this a gift for not just your fashionista diva by picking the red one which sponsors the (RED) campaign. Another tip: order a personalised message to be engraved on the back, it's free and shows you didn't just pick a box in a shop.
Go to http://www.apple.com/ and get one from £115.

4. Extraterrestrial Gift: If she was obsessed with Star Wars as a kid (most geeks were) she will love the concept of the Name a Star Set. This little set comes with the coordinates of her star and a star wall map to help her locate her very own star. The star is then officially titled with her chosen name and she will get a certificate. I know this gift idea is a little bit out there but give it at try! At least as a second gift alongside something a bit more conventional.

5. Extraordinary Story-Telling: I still cannot understand why it took almost three years for this fantastic novel trilogy to cross the channel to the UK. I'm talking about the Stieg Larsson trilogy: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. This is a fabulous mistery story about a young woman with exceptional nerdy abilities. A little warning though: whomever you give this to will probably not talk to anyone for a good 10 days as they will be totally immersed in the Larsson universe. I read my three books over Christmas break 2008, and loved every second of it!
Get her the 3 books at Waterstones http://www.waterstones.com/ from £3.98 each.
