Perfect summer sandals... dare to show your toes yet?

All you lovely fashionistas out there won't have failed to notice the unusually long bout of good weather we have seen in London lately. I didn't pay enough attention to weather forecasts recently but my theory is that maybe, instead of cash, the Icelanders sent the Brits ash AND good weather! Not bad if you compare it to what other defaulted countries send as payment... Good weather is something that should be appreciated a bit more, especially in the UK!

However, I fear this summer weather may not last for too long. Based on my experience in the last few years of living on this temperature-challenged island, these 10-odd days could have been our 2010 summer so better make the best of it before winter returns!

And to me, nothing screams summer like a pair of feet pedicured to within an inch of their lives, encased in gorgeous flat sandals. So, in order not to miss out during what could well be the only summer Bank Holiday week-end of 2010, this week-end, I've gone and looked at some nice options. I don't really believe in wearing my Havaianas outside of the beach you see, I think it is a little too "pool boy" look for my liking, doesn't fit in the city at all!

First up, a pair of Gigi sandals in leopard print by Sam Edelman (£68), which I've ordered from mywardrobe.com: they will look fabulous with white jeans or a little summer dress. This is a classic sandal shape which I love for air travel (and security checks!) as you can very easily slip your foot in and out although the strap around the ankle makes it easy to walk in.

Also on mywardrobe.com, I was able to order a pair of sandals by another US designer that I love for off-duty shoes: Steve Madden. These purple Sahara sandals (£85) will be the perfect complement to a maxi dress by Gypsy 05...
Order them both from http://www.my-wardrobe.com/

One model that I also love but will reserve for strolling to and from the beach during the holiday is this K.Jacques mule (€179) in turquoise suede. It is available at mytheresa.com. Picture this with a linen kaftan and a Goyard St Louis, gorgeous! I think I'll buy these directly from the shop in St Tropez in my next visit, where they should be just a little more affordable...

Finally, as one of my friends is off to NYC for the week-end, I've asked her to try and source these Ares sandals by J.Crew. They are the ultimate gladiator, and the gold tone makes them easy to dress up or down. They cost $125 on the US website (still don't know why J.Crew hasn't crossed the pond yet, I'm sure it would be extremely successful in the UK!)
