Leather jackets are my solution for crazy weather season

Fall is my favourite season ever, but I admit that sometimes it is a tough time to dress for: without a cover-up I feel cold, but the winter coats are still too warm. As always I have a thing for versatile pieces that can work for work as well as play, and from morning to evening (though evenings these days are spent either at my desk or in the nursery rather than fancy cocktail bars)... This probably explains why I own a scary number of leather jackets: they are fresh enough for changing weather but can be layered to create a warmer look.

In my book leather jackets are amongst the most hard-working pieces a girl can own, so it's no wonder I'm always falling for a new one. Here are my top 5 for this season, clockwise from top left:

1. Tory Burch chain-trimmed collarless jacket
This little baby is made of the softest lambskin, and the chain trim is rock-n'roll but still discreet enough to wear to the office. I'm so glad I snatched it from The Outnet earlier this week!
£280 (down from £700, I love fashionomics!) at http://www.theoutnet.com/

2.  Barbour by Temperley belted jacket
If you loved the Anya Hindmarch - Barbour partnership I wrote about, you'll adore the Alice Temperley collection for the brand. This jacket has amazing detail and will look fabulous with jeans or a floaty dress.
£549 at http://www.my-wardrobe.com/

3. Topshop shiny lizard-style red jacket
This is a bit of a statement piece, but I love the bold colour, it will work great with more muted pieces such as a black cashmere dress and some suede boots.
£165 on http://www.topshop.com/

4. Carven textured lambskin jacket
Carven puts couture into leather with this little gem, love the draped collar effect... I think this one can even pull out a sophisticated look with a silk dress for a night out...
£1,104 on http://www.matchesfashion.com/

5. Le Sentier quilted tan biker jacket
I don't usually like tan leather but I think this baby is amazing. The stitched quilting and the zip details take it into high fashion whilst the tan colour keeps it quite low-key
£441 on http://www.farfetch.com/
