Miss Lecroc: Anthologie de Sacs

What's in your handbag?... if you're a busy girl like me, it's probably an eclectic mix of things that reflect your day-to-day life. I wish I had a civilised and very proper handbag, but really I don't! I carry a great deal of things which can seem totally unrelated, from my copy of the day's FT to the little Sophie Giraffe that always seems to end up in my bag even during work days, to my hot pink notebook to toss my blog ideas...

As a handbag obsesser, to say that I was over-excited when I learned of Miss Lecroc's project is not even close to approaching how I felt. Here is the story: one day I stumbled upon the picture of a gorgeous watercolour painting depicting a Chanel purse with all its contents, and by looking into it I heard Miss Lecroc's is creating watercolour paintings of exactly 1,001 handbags, after what she will publish everything in a book that will be called Petite Anthologie des Sacs et Sacs à Main.

I absolutely had to get my purse-onality painted by this talented artist, who turned out to be absolutely adorable on email. We exchanged notes on the project, and then I sent her pictures of everything together with some notes describing my posessions and what they mean to me... and just a few days later, here it is, Number 752, my Hermès Haut à Courroies with all its contents from the day I took the pictures. I called it my Sac Porte-Chance, my Lucky Bag, because it is a special order by Hermès which has a little horseshoe stamp and has brought me much joy since I've owned it...

The original A5-sized painting should arrive in the coming days, I can't wait to frame it and give it a place of choice in my dressing room.

What a gorgeous illustration. I change my bag around too often and actually find my pockets are the ones overflowing more often than a bag lol Love the idea though!

Fabulous! That's so cool! My bag contents are almost always the same, but I try to minimize the contents because it's getting heavy lol!

Thanks so much everyone! I do tend to carry a lot with me, and my handbags are always very heavy, but that's the only way I feel good and it gives my arms a workout...

I occassionally google "Miss Lecroc" to see what she's been up to and if anyone has posted more recent portraits (I'm No. 736 from 2009) and viola! Her work is so so beautiful. I went all out with the professional framing (it felt so intrusive to leave it at the framers though!) and it looks stunning in my dressing room. I cannot wait until her book comes out!

I would love to get my hand bag painted, I adore this idea. The problem is, I don't know how to go about contacting Miss Lecroc. Does any one know if she still paints hand bags? if so, does any one have a current email address for her?

Dear SalsaFairy74, yes I believe she is still working on her book of handbag paintings, if you click where it says "Email her directly" at the end of the post above you'll be able to ask her. I had an amazing experience getting this done and would love to hear about yours!
