Yesterday I popped into Harvey Nichols for a couple of errands on the way home, and was delighted to be able to see the new collection of dresses from Victoria by Victoria Beckham. I know it's a bit counter-intuitive for a singer come wife and mother to make a good designer but I think she is the exception to the rule... There have been numerous fiascos in the history of fashion reconversions (I won't name names here...) but I believe Mrs Beckham has actually proved herself to have a wonderful eye for silhouettes and a great care for quality and good cut.
Her main line has been a complete success with many loyal followers and she is now recognised by the fashion movers and shakers as a force to be reckoned with, however the main line collections are usually very serious and grown-up, and a bit pricey... It was high time she launched a diffusion line which lets her laid-back persona out (we've heard a lot about how fun and self-deprecating the lady is in person, but it was hard to believe from the pictures!)
I fell in love with the whimsical moon and cat prints when I first read about this collection, and I was really looking forward to seeing them (and purchasing them), but sadly they didn't have any yesterday at Harvey Nichols, so I left empty-handed. What they did have is a fun display of some of the iconic silhouettes of the collection, complete with sparkly cat head-gear, and some very sharp well-cut designs. And the fabrics are simply fabulous. It all screams quality, so well worth the few hundreds charged for each piece.
I'll be waiting patiently to see if I can get my little paws on one of the prints... Until then, you can check out the collection on the 1st floor of Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge.
