The Diamond Jubilee series (1): Patriotic work-out gear

If you live in the UK, like me, you will have spent the last few months being bombarded with patriotic and joyful adverts, filled with an optimism totally at odds with the economic sentiment and the rage that has taken over the most subdued Londoners as the city morphed into a swiss cheese mayhem with preparatory roadworks and underground disruption, all in the spirit of getting ready for the biggest Summer this city has seen in years...

As someone who drives into work daily and commutes to Heathrow for day trips through the ominous Hammersmith fly-over, I have to say I was feeling a bit cold about the whole thing, until this week, that is. This week, the sun has finally come out and it's filling me with giddiness which makes me smile upon almost anything, even the silly road closures around the palace!

So, I've decided to do a little series dedicated to the Diamond Jubilee, which in my view is a far mor interesting and cool event than the Olympic Games. The Queen is perhaps the only person that billions of people instantly recognise, but also the only monarch I know who appears so dedicated to her role and people (and that's coming from someone who grew up in a monarchy so I know what I'm talking about!), and she definitely deserves the celebrations this Summer, road closures non-withstanding...

To start off, how about some patriotic work-out clothes? Like many busy women, one of the first thoughts that crosses my mind when the sun finally comes out and I realise it's less than ten weeks to my summer holiday is one of dread... Clearly I haven't been exercising enough and I may have indulged in just one too many cannoli from my local Italian deli (I know, nobody's perfect).

Thankfully, the lovely people of Sweaty Betty have launched a capsule collection to help us all go back to the running tracks and swimming pools with a cute and super cool patriotic work-out kit. I don't know about you, but for me working out is always made easier if I'm wearing something nice... It may sound silly, but it just works better for me!

So I'm very excited about this little collection, it's the perfect incentive to go and exercise in the sun! And, should the rain come back (because it will, we all know that), the little cape is just what we'll need to stay stylish for a morning dash to the gym!

As to what to do with your brand new kit, well, that depends, for me, it will be a combo of brisk walks in the park (I can't even run for a bus) to Xtend Barre classes at Heartcore. How about you, how you will you get fit(ter?) for the Summer?
