Before you start thinking things are so dire this month that I've taken to the bottle, don't fret. Hopefully the below pictures will be quite self-explanatory... Yesterday was a day of total look in wine (or, more poetically, berry) hues.
I'll admit this look is taking colour coordination to a whole new level, but I have a valid excuse: this week has been incredibly manic in the work front and my style imagination is hitting a bit of a blank as a result! As I stood in my closet yesterday, I just couldn't bring myself to think of alternative colours I wanted to mix this burgundy dress with; I could have gone for grey or black, but then it was just so easy to pile on the vino pieces.
Lazy, maybe? But then in a weird way it might have worked, at least if I trust the nice comments I got from colleagues: it's all a little Miss Type A, but at least it goes together!
The dress I'm wearing here is a great find, it looks far more expensive that its actual price tag, and I inmmediatly fell in love with it when I spotted it online. With its blouson sleeves, curved waistline, and its ruched neckline, this is a piece I would have expected to find on a designer's collection, and yet it's from the fab ASOS website (a recessionista's dream, as you all know).
Coat-wise, though a longer coat would also have worked, I opted for my peplum jacket from the AW2012 Burberry collection, as I like the look of it with a skater skirt shape. Also, for some reason I haven't had the opportunity to wear it as often as I would have liked and god knows, unlike the dress, that is one piece that is going to need a high number of wears to bring the cost-per-wear down from its eye-watering level!
Once the dress and jacket were such a perfect match, it was only a tiny step to adding accessories in the same colour scheme (if you're going to go colour match crazy, might as well do it all the way, don't you think?)...
Details of the outfit below:
- Dress, ASOS
- Peplum wool jacket, Burberry (all sold out, try this one by Alexander McQueen)
- Mary-janes, Christian Louboutin (old collection), same colour as these at Matches
- Burgundy tote, Mini Luggage by Céline
- Rabbit fur collar in burgundy, Yves Salomon at Jules B.
Happy friday!

You look absolutely ruddy gorgeous in that dress - I've had to order myself one too now!
The dress is stunning! I thought it would be an utter fortune.
Gorgeous. My favorite colors. I think the easy/lazy thing to do would have been to go with a grey or black coat/jacket and accessories--this took style. Type A? Nuts.
Gorgeous dress, the colour, the cut, and it looks expensive! Also loving your fringe, you look fabulous!
Thank you thank you ladies! xx
I love your sense of style, the conservative but fashionable way you choose your outfits. That dress is adorable and suits your silhouette, suddenly i think i have to buy one for myself. The first time i got a constructive inspiration reading a blog!
Thank you dear Alice, indeed I try to stay conservative in my office style to respect my job and colleagues but still manage to have a bit of fun with fashion! The dress is quite a find I must say, I think I might just have to order it in black... xxx S
