Tuesday: desperately trying to stay warm!

As much as I love style and fashion, there are days when even my commitment to put together outfits falters under the attack of London's weather. The last few days have seen a combination of heavy snow fall (for London, of course if this were outer Siberia it would be perceived as mild, but the big smog just isn't prepared for this type of attack!), freezing wind gusts, and positively icy conditions...

And yet I refuse to wave a white flag yet: there shall be no working from home in my PJs nor will I drag myself into work attired in an outfit worthy of an Eskimo hunter. But I'll admit, Tuesday's outfit came very very close, just look down...

First, a disclaimer: I did not walk from my parking to work in these 5-inchers... I wore my comfortable yet somewhat chic brown boots by Steven Madden, then switched once in the safer environment of my office. The London pavements tend to get dangerously icy within hours of any snow fall, and because I'm not sure how I would rock the Loubies plus crutches look I'm keeping to the safe option of wearing flat boots to walk in until things return to normal!

The sky-high heels I'm wearing here are however quite essential, despite the snow, as they elevate this whole look away from what could very well end up being Russian babushka style, circa 1983... I'm wearing my only oversized coat, in a textured looped wool fabric that really keeps the warmth in, something well needed when temperatures stay below freezing during most hours of the day! However, bearing in mind I'm no bean pole I try to keep the bulk to a minimum by 1) keeping the lower layers as lean as possibile and 2) belting the coat in for a little bit of definition. I think I could only sport the unbelted cocoon coat look if I was 8 inches taller, and a good 20 pounds lighter :)

Underneath the bulky coat, just a cashmere dress and some Spanx tights (the only way to wear a knit dress in my opinion is to complement it with some smoothing Spanx!), all accessorized with a mix of taupes, browns and army green tones. All-in, I was warm, and frankly these days that's good enough...

Outfit details:
- Oversized coat, from AW2011 at Orla Kiely, but this Marc by Marc Jacobs one is similar and on sale!
- Cashmere dress, bought years ago at Scoop NYC, but this AWear is fabulous
- Green shoe boots, Minelli
Bronze birkin, cashmere shawl and ostrich collier de chien bracelet, Hermès
- For some similar furry gloves, check out Tod's

Love the whole look! The Hermes accessories look stunning, especially loving that CDC.

Thank you Flossie! The cdc is a lucky vintage find. I've let most my cdcs go after Monsieur Baby's arrival (they are not practical with a toddler around) but this is one of the few that I just had to keep. xx
