Tuesday: Mixing textures for an easy office look

How is my first week back at work post the holidays going? Well let's say, so far, it's been a bit like a roller-coaster: Monday morning, excited to be back, showing my lovely analyst pictures of Monsieur Baby on his first skis (at just one day short of two years old!), hearing everyone's holiday news, then Monday afternoon, starting to feel the tiresome signs of having spent more time in front of numerous screens than should be allowed for someone with just two eyes, and then Tuesday, ouch.

Of course, the second day back is always tough, with a couple of snooze punches because my body would rather shut down than wake up at 5:30am, but this year it's been made just that extra bit harder with a particularly gruesome 12 hours. Come 7pm, I just felt like rolling over. To say I'm struggling to create fun original outfits when I'm this hazed is an understatement... Anyways, for lack of cool style, at least today's choice was practical and somewhat interesting thanks to a mix of textures.

Velvet trousers, silk top, tweed jacket, suede pumps, metal buckles, cashmere scarf, and a brushed leather tote... all I can possibly missing is a nylon scrunchie in my hair (never!) All accessorized with some sparkly jewelry (real and fake, it's always good to mix a bit to add some fun). At least I didn't feel wildly inadequate.

Favourite piece today? It's a close tie between my antique diamond ring which I wear on my index knuckle, and my adored Roger Vivier pumps... Of course this is a good place to mention that I love them for their style but also and maybe mostly because they are as comfortable as slippers, no matter how many hours I stand in them. Note to self: must check out Roger Vivier's SS2013 collection to see if there are any interesting ones for the new season.

So there you have it, day two back in the office, done. How was your day?

Outfit details:
- Blue velvet trousers, J.Crew (now sold out), these Mango ones are very similar
- Silk top, COS (old collection), but at Mango they have once more something close!
- Jacket, Isabel Marant Etoile (old collection), try this L'Agence one for a close look
- Buckle pumps, aka the Belle de Nuit shoe, Roger Vivier
- Saffiano Galleria tote, Prada

The jewellery really makes the outfit. Lovely ring and collier!

January is always a bit tough but already done a third...
