Wednesday: Experimenting with Winter colours at the juice bar

Every Winter, it's the same story... Around the middle of February I start getting very bored with dark colours, boots, and heavy materials. I start longing for sandals, bright colours and a generally less severe approach to style. This is my version of the Winter blues, I don't feel the need to be on a beach in the tropics (though I woudn't pass on a vacation in the sun if someone else would do my job for me during that time!) however I long for next season's fashion.

Sadly it's still a bit early for bare feet in sandals and silk trousers, so in the meanwhile I'm trying to indulge my sunny dreams by dabbing in a freeze-friendly version of mid-season dressing.

The dress I'm wearing is made of teal crepe, which for me is a great trans-seasonal material as it's light enough for Spring yet with tights it's great for Winter office-wear, as the office is often over-heated and crepe stays cool all day. This dress is a typical AW2012 dropped waist shape with a ruffled hemline, but I thought the belt would be an interesting way to add some definition across the waistline. When worn loose, it's obviously longer but makes me look slightly shapeless, which I'm not sure I love yet... I do love the little details on the sleeves and the piped pocket seams.

Another thing that's nice about this dress is the colour, it's vibrant enough to be interesting yet it doesn't scream wrong season. It's a nice tone for this time of the year, and I tried to keep the accessories in the same vibe, with navy sandals, a purple belt, and charcoal semi-opaque tights. The belt is an oldie from Hermès, grained purple on one side and soft shiny black on the other, but I just got a new buckle in the collier de chien style...

And finally, a quick look at my beloved Prada platform sandals... I know a lot of people frown at wearing sandals with tights as if it were a big fashionista no-no, but I for one love the look. It allows me to wear some of my favourite sandals all year round, without the risk of transofming my little toes into frozen mini sausages. Another thing that I like is the ability to hide the fact I go polish-less on my toes throughout January and February, it's my toes' breathing period after the Chrismas party season and before Spring's barefoot craze (before you accuse me of letting my grooming routine go, let me reassure you: I'm still having my regular pedicures in this time, I simply ask the therapist to forego the polish). And it does look like I'm rebelling against the rules a little, doesn't it?

Anyways... here are the details of my attempt at popping Winter colours outfit:
- Teal dress with dropped waist, Whistles at ASOS
- Belt, Hermès
- Sandals and wallet, Prada

@Longuette, I love the idea of wearing sandals in the winter... admittedly these are suede platforms so not super summery, but still, it's fun!

@Niti, thank you ever so much for such an adorable comment, I hope you continue to enjoy the posts!

You look lovely as usual, and a happy Valentine's Day to you, too.

An overheated office? My dream! My office is freezing year 'round, so I have my (contraband) little heater and with a nice GM or other wrap (and sometimes fingerless gloves) I stay pretty comfortable.

Hello, I have just found your blog and think it's fab! I have treated myself to the lovely wine coloured Asos dress featured a couple of months back. I was wondering where the bracelets you are wearing in this post are from? Thanks Jane.

Dear Jane, welcome! I hope you stay for a while! I wear my little bracelets everyday, almost never take them out, here are the ones you can see on the picture: the bangle with little screws is by Cartier, the black beads with angel icon little charms is by Kim Poor and the tiny peace sign chain is by Messika. xx

@Pam, the new building is too hot, whilst our old one was, like yours, freezing. I did use my GMs as quasi blankets quite a bit!!
