I've been back at work for a few days now, and the other day I was going up in the lift and in comes a lady dressed for what could only be an outing to the beach... why else would she be wearing a pair of plastic flipflops and the flimsiest jersey mini dress? It started me thinking: where on earth is there a beach close enough for someone to go from Canary Wharf? I asked my analysts, and they confirmed no beach had been built since my going on holiday. The lady was just a case of poor sense of appropriateness, I guess.
I know it's been warm in London, but really there are ways to dress appropriately without sweating like a little piglet. Especially when you work in a conservative environment such as a bank or a law firm. (Then again, I'm not sure what type of industry my lift buddy would have been appropriate for in that get-up!) I try to keep it interesting with cool shapes or textures, but always opt for light fabrics to make the day go faster, and of course fabulous shoes are the perfect antidote to that looming feeling I get when I look outside and it's sunny whilst I'm inside being lit by my four screens!
Lace is a texture I love, it's ladylike and interesting and can be styled classically or in a more modern way, and thankfully it's not warm. I wear this skirt all year round, it's just a question of layers. On Tuesday, I mixed it with a classic button-down shirt: this white 100% cotton is nicely fitted and a dream to wear. Ok, if I'd stopped there it could have been as pretty bland mix, which is why I added a few interesting accessories to keep it out of boring. A CDC is always fierce... and by now my Aquazzura sandals have got so many outings (and features on this blog!) that their cost per wear must be down to 5GBP!!!
