The ultimate two-for-one outfit: from day to evening

Today’s outfit is all about the ease of moving from desk to bar in a twirl. I never had much patience for changing clothes and upgrading my make-up after a day at work, but now, with a schedule busier than ever, it’s definitely not on the cards. Instead, if I know I have a dinner or drinks after work I just wear something that can be easily up-cycled with a change of handbag or shoes. And, no, I still don’t re-do my make-up in the office bathroom before going out, my day look will just have to suffice…

Usually, I find a dress is better for this type of situation, whereas a trouser suit might still feel a little too corporate for evening dos, and a skirt and top might be a bit too informal. And of course, dresses have the added bonus that they don’t require any thinking around matching top and bottom, which at 5:30 in the morning is not a small feat! At the moment I’m having a thing with knit and intarsia dress: they are warm and comfy, all I need at this time of the year when the days (and nights!) are turning chilly.

This one is a true find, from one of my absolute favourite high street brands, Zara, and yet it looks like so lush and expensive! Of course as always I did my usual trick of mixing high street with luxe accessories. The shoes are from Rupert Sanderson’s AW 2015 collection, they have a perfect 10cm heel, which for me is the ideal height for everyday heels. It’s easy to drive with them and walk over to fetch lunch with these. And of course the lace-up detail is absolutely on point and so darling.

The coat is another one of my purchases for this season (remember how I try to buy one coat, maybe two… per season?). I fell in love with its snowy bee-hive weave, it’s just so gorgeous up close, and of course the oversize look with the massive collar is so versatile. I wear it in the office with dresses and trousers, but also at the week-end with skinny jeans. Love it!

Finally, the bag… for the day at work I took the biggest leather tote I own: professional with the black smooth texture yet big enough to accommodate all my essentials for the day: notebook, wallet, spare handbag, phones, camera (you didn’t think I took the pictures for this post on my Iphone did you?) etc. Great, but not so great as an evening bag. Which is why I packed this little Chanel baby for the evening part of my day; it’s pretty isn’t it? Pity the size is so small it doesn’t really work for daytime for me, not with all the things I feel the uncontrollable need to carry around me to feel like everything is as it should be, ha!

Anyhow, there you have it, my day to evening easy to transition look, an essential this month given all the Christmas drinks and parties. What’s your trick? Do you change completely or do you just upgrade parts of your outfit?

Love the different greys and textures. I'm wearing a lot of grey right now.
